Sociology of Law Lunch Seminar: "Gaza : Att spränga ett getto"

On November 18, author and journalist Shora Esmailian will join us for a Brown Bag seminar. She will talk about her new book on Gaza, which provides, among other things, a historical background that offers a deeper understanding of the ongoing crimes against humanity in Gaza. For over 20 years, Shora has covered and written about the Middle East, focusing on Palestine/Israel and Iran. Additionally, she writes on topics such as climate, migration, borders, racism, and literary criticism with a focus on children’s and young adult literature.

Shora Esmailian is the author of Ur askan – Om människor på flykt i en varmare värld (2012, Natur & Kultur), the first book of reportage on climate refugees in Swedish. She is the co-author of Iran on the Brink – Rising Workers and Threats of War (2007, Pluto Press) and Sprängkraft i Iran – arbetarkamp och krigshot (2005, Federativs förlag), both written together with Andreas Malm.

Since 2004, she has worked as a journalist covering issues such as climate change, children's literature, Iran, the Middle East, feminism and gender issues, racism and migration. She was previously the subeditor at the progressive weekly Arbetaren (“The Worker”), editor at Re:public, a Swedish documentary magazine and editor-in-chief at Gaudeamus, the newspaper of the student union at Stockholm University. Currently, she is a freelance journalist.
